faqs

Mangoes in Ghana are produced and exported in two seasons annually. April to August is the major season, while the minor season runs from November to January.

employment impact

6 full-time workers.

At harvest time we hire several dozen seasonal workers.

Age range of workers is 18 – 30 years old

mango waste

Every year we have to destroy 50 plus tons of mangoes (see images below). Apart from the labour costs, the mango wastage has a serious environmental impact – they have to be carefully disposed of; if the mangoes lie in the orchard for long, they can cause the spread of Black Spot disease.

challenges

Compared to most Ghanaian farmers (especially those who own their own land) am very young. I am from a very humble background and not well-connected which means EVERYTHING in Ghana. MKL Wealth Farms fruits and seedlings are at least as good as any other producer in Ghana (as a matter of fact the well-connected agents buy seedlings from us and resell our same seedlings to major growers in Ghana). Getting a fair shake from the big players is an obstacle that we have not yet been able to overcome.

Major needs:

  • Financing
  • Access to export markets
